Mexico City, Mexico (AFP) – Hurricane John on Monday made landfall in southern Mexico as a major Category 3 storm, the US-based National Hurricane Center said.

John came ashore near Marquelia in the southern state of Guerrero, packing maximum sustained winds of around 120 miles (195 kilometers) per hour, the NHC said.
